The profiles of the beautiful,
black, lava rock mountains stand out against the bluest of skies. It is an island of diverse origins, Linosa. You can tell right away, the volcanoes, already inactive, have given them a most disturbing aspect.
The only inhabited center, characterized by the plentiful construction of pastel colored angles, corners, doors and windows, gathers around a tiny port. From here one can begin an adventure on foot to conquer the peaks, or by boat. It is a tranquil island with few inhabitants, at a time dedicated to raising bovine, today they live on tourism.
The culmination point is Mount Vulcano (185m), as it's name says, it is an inactive volcano. The middle of the island, predominantly desert, still presents some cultivation (at so-called Fossa del Cappellano, an area well spared from the wind).
Edged by lava rocks, very jagged, Linosa is considered a paradise for underwater enthusiasts and sea watchers. Linosa's seabed falls rapidly to a great depth, at a very modest distance from the coast, reaching and succeeding a depth of 300 m; the fishing area is therefore rather limited, this way there are few that are "stuck dry" from the coast. This does not mean that it lacks areas for diving, to take photographs or to go fishing; areas rich in grouper, ricciola, lobster, and squilla. The first free dive can be taken at Scalo Vecchio: parrot fish, herring, labridi, and ricciola will appear in this first approach to Linosa's waters.
In front of Punta Arena Bianca enormous masses descend to 10-12 m deep, hosting occhiate and saraghi; up to 18 m deep, we see smaller masses where in the months of June, July and sometimes September it is easy to come across large breed fish.As well, the aspects of the "less interesting" sea bed are just as worth exploring with a tank or just a snorkel, because the colors of Linosa's sea are exceptional, and surprises here are always possible.
